Farmers are regarded as the backbone of India’s economy. So, every year, National Farmer’s Day, popularly called Kisan Diwas, is widely celebrated in India on 23rd December. National Farmer’s Day is observed to honor the dedication, struggle and sacrifice of the Indian farmers. The day signifies the importance of listening to the farmers, fulfil their basic needs and demands and look after their socio-economic security. It is also an endeavor to educate the farmers with modern agrarian techniques and encourage them to use these resources and facilities to increase the amount of crop production.
Besides paying rich tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh, we at Gajera Vidyabhavan, Utran Prep section celebrated Farmers Day. The celebrations aimed to create awareness among the learners on the importance of farmers and farming for a healthy and prosperous nation and to promote healthy eating and value food. Learners came in farmers ‘dress up.
Educators made a village, giving them an idea about the life of the farmers, they get to see in a real one. Different food items made from wheat, Bajra, Jawar and Rice were displayed. Educators and learners sang a song and played drama to tribute the farmers and their hard work. They also explained the journey of seed to Plants through the drama.
They also organized the plantation drive at school, sowed seeds of Fenugreek ( Methi) and whilst encouraging them to surge their interest in farming and made them experience how plants grow. Various activities done by the learners like plucking, washing, cutting and making Fenugreek Fritters with help of cafeteria staff.
These programs were a reminder for all to go back to the agricultural culture to save the culture and be grateful towards the farmers. In the end they took oath to respect food and not waste food. Thus, the day became fruitful, colorful and most memorable.
