World Environment Day-2025

Every year on 5 June, the world unites for World Environment Day. Observed across more than 150 countries, it stands as the largest international platform dedicated to raising awareness and sparking action for the environment.

The Theme for 53rd World Environment Day 2025 is “Ending Plastic Pollution.” Plastic pollution exacerbates the deadly impacts of the triple planetary crisis: the crisis of climate change, the crisis of nature, land and biodiversity loss, and the crisis of pollution and waste. Plastic pollution is choking our planet – harming ecosystems, well-being, and the climate. Plastic waste clogs rivers, pollutes the ocean, and endangers wildlife.

Plastic pollution impacts every ecosystem and every person on this planet. By 2040, plastic leakage to the environment is predicted to grow by 50 per cent, and that pollution creeps into our bodies through the food we eat, the water we drink, and even the air that we breathe.  Approximately one-fifth of the world’s plastic garbage is produced in India.

A variety of awareness programs are organized worldwide to educate students about environmental issues and their importance.

An activity was organized by Shri H.J. Gajera Secondary & Higher Secondary English Medium School, Utran on World Environment Day; where students actively participated in a sapling plantation drive, planting different types of tree saplings in the school campus, paired with a card-giving initiative to the passerby, food stalls, shopkeepers, school helpers with an intention to appreciate their service to keep the surroundings clean. The objective of card-giving activity was to raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection and encourages people to reflect on their own roles.

The celebration generated a positive impact, raising environmental awareness among students and fostering a sense of responsibility for protecting the environment. Students actively participated in the activities and demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability. The school’s efforts to promote environmental consciousness were successful in motivating students to make a difference.
